What liability can I hold a homeowner to if their dog attacks me while I'm reading their meter? Med./Time off?

I work for a meter reading contractor for Entergy inside the state of Arkansas. Our company offers no insurance and this concerns me. In town most animals are on chains or inside fences, but in rural areas some won't let me get out of the truck.
Answers:
In most states, the owner of a dog (who is not necessarily the homeowner) is legally responsible for any damage their dog causes -whether or not there is a bite. For instance if you fell and got hurt trying to get away from a dog, that would be something the homeowner could be sued for. You should however also have workers compensation coverage (which is different that health insurance) and that covers employees who are hurt in the scope of their job and pays for their medical bills and lost wages. Find out if you have it.
In Florida, if a homeowner has an agressive dog, they are given a time to meet the meter reader and must have the dog inside. If the meter reader can't get to the house, they either bill a large sum to cover projected electricity till the homeowner makes the meter available or turn the electricity off. Another option: buy some bear repellent / mace spray if you feel that intimidated or a cattle prod or call animal control.
Your company should have a policy covering this. Ask your Human Resources Director.
sounds like a problem you need to address with your employer. If you are injured on the job, and this did occur on your job, it is a companies responsible to pay for medical bills. This can be done though a private insurance company or Workman's comp. insurance. If they refuse, I'd sue the company for every dime the have or are likely to get. Get a good attorney to sue that company!
I think none, check the agreement between the company and their customers about waivers when their meters are being read. I would think you would be covered by workmen comp
